Marketing your business online can be very lucrative indeed. I’m sure you’ve heard about the success stories. That’s probably the reason you decided to take a stab at making money online. But what you probably did not calculate is the expense. So how do you promote a website on Google for free?
Or can you?…
Well surprisingly, you can. And that is good news because many people who decide to start an online business are broke. The reason for this is common. Often people are lured in by other marketers who sell only the bling dream.
Eventually those same dreamers are rudely awakened with the truth. The truth being that most successful online product owners or affiliate marketers actually put in a ton of time and money.
But for those of you who either are cheap or don’t have the money; I have a solution. In this blog post I will show how to promote a website for free on Google with zero budget.
Then again, let me be honest—it won’t be totally free. You will have to invest some time. And time is money.
So if you are willing to invest a couple of hours then read on…
This strategy will involve a little research. You will have to do some research to locate my favorite type of keywords; Long tail keywords.
For those of you not familiar, long tail keywords are search terms that consists of more than 3 words. These words are really effective because they are easier to rank for and they have more buyer intent.
To locate these keywords I use 3 tools:
Quora is an answers website. Basically people go on Quora to find answers to questions they may have. This is great place to answer questions to establish yourself as an expert. You can also generate a ton of free traffic to your website for free as well.
But if you are not an expert yet, you can use this platform to find out what people are concerned about in your niche. Find a question you feel you can answer then write down the core keywords from the question. Now you are ready to do some research.
The next step is to use the core keywords that you extracted to perform a search on Google. Once you have initiated a search for your keyword, scroll to the bottom of the page. There you will see a list of 8 suggested keywords. These will usually be long tail keywords.
Copy these keywords because you will need them for the next step.
This research is really hard work…isn’t it? Yeah, so hard that you can literally complete this in less than 5 minutes.
Now that you have your 8 long tail keywords, I want you to head over to Google Adwords Keyword Planner. This tool will help you to figure out how much search volume you’re actually working with.
The results will only give you a range of how much search volume you can expect. That’s because Google will not show you a more precise amount unless you are running paid ads with Adwords. That’s okay though— you just want to make sure that there is at least some search volume.
while validating your keywords, there are three elements you should keep in mind: Search volume, competition, and length. The longest keyword with the lowest competition that has decent search volume is your winner. On the example above I would chose the second one “what is affiliate marketing and how does it work?”
You can even combine keywords to make a longer phrase as long as it makes sense.
Through simple research you’ve found a long tail keyword that has good search volume with low competition.
So now what?
That’s where the hard work comes in. You have to write a blog post of 1,000 words or more. This post will need some basic SEO injected into it.
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It can be a little complicated for newbie marketers. But for this project we are not going to go overboard with optimizing for the search engines.
I just want you to follow 4 simple steps:
If you need help remembering these steps you can use Yoast SEO WordPress plugin. Oh yeah, I suggest you use WordPress for your blogging platform.
Anyway, Yoast SEO is an easy to use WordPress plugin that helps you to optimize your content for SEO. When you have your content optimized properly, the plugin will give you a green signal. This will confirm that you’ve done a good job.
Well that’s pretty much it. Completing these steps will give you a great chance of ranking on the first page for your chosen keywords. Now when people search using your long tail keyword, you website will be visible. In addition, long tail keywords usually rank for several other related searches.
But don’t stop there. If you want to keep the traffic flowing, you should continue to crank out blog post using this same formula. For best results, when you’re first starting out, you should blog daily or at least 3 times a week.
Free SEO traffic is not always instant. It can take from a few weeks to a few months before your rankings show up. If you want instant gratification you should be promoting every blog post. This will not cost you a dime.
You can do this by sharing every post your publish to your following. That includes Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, StumbleUpon, Tumblr…etc. Using a free syndication plugin like Jetpack can automate this process. Jetpack comes with every WordPress installation. All you have to do is activate it.
Since this strategy was based on a question from Quora, you can answer the question by pointing them to this article. Make sure you do this in discreet way by writing a few words before you hit them with the link. You don’t want to come across as spammy. Besides, you are providing good valure…so share it.
You’re allowed to do this because, now that you’ve written a 1,000 word blog post, you’re an expert. Right? Well, not really, but you are reading, researching and writing, so you are well on your way.
So that’s my simple solution on how to promote your website on Google without a budget. I hope you enjoyed it. And if you did, please feel free to share it to your followers. I don’t mind at all. Sharing is caring!
